John Levering (1789-1878)
The signs accompanying the bookshelves and desk at the Lower Merion Historical Society read:
"Book shelves (c. 1840's) from the Lower Merion Academy that were used by the Lower Merion Literary Company to hold their Library.
Made of black walnut wood and tinted with casein (milk) paint. The wood was harvested in a nearby grove and cut at Levering's Mill located in Academyville along the Schuylkill River."
