William MacLeod MacKenzie (1846- d. unknown)
FATHER: Hector MacKenzie
MOTHER: Margaret Janet (MacLeod) MacKenzie SPOUSE: Margaret Euphemia Reed (1847-1922), m. Dec 11, 1870; b. Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Pa BURIAL SITE: Unknown |
William was born on February 16, 1846, in the parish of Moy, where his father was minister.
From the Cousin Family History Binder:
"Little is known about William other than he was an insurance clerk at the time of his marriage to Margaret [this is on the marriage record]. Margaret apparently moved to Inverness after her mother and father died. Their names were Robert and Mary Reed. She also had a brother named John Reed who emigrated to the United States and lived in Franklinville, Ohio. Margaret was take in by her uncle Cornelius Wilson and lived with him until she married William. It is suspected that they moved in with William's mother and father at 18 Church Street in Inverness since Hector MacKenzie was buried from that address in 1871. This is where Hector MacKenzie (Heath Sr.) was born [in 1872]."
My additional research:
Margaret Euphemia Reed was born in 1847 in England. She was baptized/christened on Nov. 28, 1847 to parents Robert Reed and Mary Smith in the Chapelry of Deptford, Durham, England. I haven't found anything more on her parents, but there is a baptism/christening record for her brother John Robert Reed, Nov. 14, 1841, to parents Robert and Mary Reed at Bishop-Wearmouth, Durham, England. As stated above, it seems that when Robert and Mary Reed died, Margaret went to live with uncle Cornelius Wilson (who was also born in England, and I do not know what brought him to Inverness), and John moved to Ohio. I believe that John married an Ohio woman named Sarah and together they moved to Missouri, near St. Joseph (dates unknown). I also believe that William, Margaret, and Hector eventually joined Margaret's brother in Missouri, some time between 1877 and 1879 (based on census records). What happened to William after 1880 is unknown (he moved to Canada, he moved to Chicago, or he died), and at some point between 1880 and 1883 Margaret and Hector moved to Philadelphia, where her uncle Cornelius Wilson was living with his wife Rachel. There, Margaret met Abel Heath (also from England) and they married on Nov. 7, 1883 at St. Timothy's Church, Roxborough. Abel Heath adopted Hector MacKenzie (Heath Sr.), and we know that Abel became a naturalized citizen in 1888.
